Everyone has unique traits that determine how you think, feel and act. But with personality problems, some patterns are so deep-rooted and rigid that they get in the way of your daily life. They make it difficult to adapt and can cause problems in relationships, at work or in your personal growth.
Often these patterns originate in childhood and are reinforced by negative experiences, such as mistreatment, abuse or emotional neglect. Experiences that can lead to distorted ways of thinking and feeling; that distort your view of yourself and the world.

At U-center, we look beyond the visible symptoms. Personality problems often affect many areas of your life: relationships, emotions, work, self-image and how you deal with stress. Therefore, we focus not only on the disorder or behavioral patterns, but also on what lies underneath such as drastic experiences, lifestyle, stress or other psychological complaints. Our approach is intensive, personal and focused on recovery.
The basis of our treatment consists of proven methods, such as schema therapy. Using support materials-such as books and exercises-you can continue to actively work on your recovery outside of sessions. If necessary, medication may be part of treatment.
Together with a multidisciplinary team of specialists - including a psychologist, psychiatrist and psychotherapist - you will work on strengthening your resilience, improving relationships and building a more stable and healthy self-image.
At every stage of treatment, e-health is an integral part of your treatment journey.
Personality problems are often not isolated. The complaints often go together with other psychological or social problems, such as depression, trauma, addiction, relationship problems or stress at work. That is why we opt for an integral approach that includes the whole.
You follow an intensive and personalized treatment program, completely tailored to your situation and needs. Together with a fixed team of professionals you will not only work on your behavioral patterns, but you will also look at what lies underneath. We include your personal history, relationships, lifestyle, family situation and health in the process.
You will learn to understand where your patterns come from, how they are reinforced, and-more importantly-how to break them. We offer you practical tools for lasting change, in a way that suits you and helps you deal better with the challenges of everyday life.
Our integrated approach focuses not on suppressing symptoms, but on true recovery: developing resilience, preventing relapse and regaining control of your life.
Good treatment starts with really understanding what is going on. Therefore we start with an extensive intake. Together we examine where your symptoms come from, what is keeping them going and what is preventing you from feeling better. We look broadly at your life story, relationships, lifestyle and health.
Based on the intake we make a personal treatment plan. You start with psycho-education: you learn what personality problems are, how they manifest themselves and what the impact is on your daily life.
Then we use various forms of therapy - including schema therapy - that help you gain insight into old behavioral patterns and break through them step by step. In this way you work towards lasting change in a way that suits you.
When treating a personality disorder, we always begin with psychoeducation. You receive an explanation of what a personality disorder is, what it means for you, and how it affects your life and relationships. This gives you more insight into your behavior, emotions and recurring patterns. At the same time, we work on a healthy daily structure, with set times for meals, sleep and treatments.
During this therapy, you will learn to deal with certain situations differently through exercises. We discuss and treat the behaviors that maintain your anxiety symptoms in this cognitive behavioral therapy. The therapy focuses on looking closely at your symptoms or problems and turning this into constructive thoughts and actions.
Schematherapy helps you become aware of persistent behavioral patterns associated with your personality problems. You gain insight into how these patterns arose and in what situations they are triggered. Therapy usually takes place in individual sessions tailored to your needs.
